Waiting for someone to offer them a job was no longer an option.
So they decided to create one of them.
In Buenos Aires, four friends with Down syndrome – Mateo, Leandro, Franco and Mauricio – chose not to let the prejudices decide their future.
Instead of waiting for an opportunity that never seemed to come, they founded **Los Perejiles***, a business specialized in catering for parties and events.
Their goal was simple.
Prove that talent, commitment and professionalism do not depend on a diagnosis.
Each event is prepared with the same care and organization of any other company.
They wear the uniform, they divide the tasks, prepare the pizzas and follow the customers carefully, transforming each service into a concrete demonstration of autonomy and teamwork.
Los Perejiles is not a pizzeria with a local open to the public.
It is a company that brings its service directly to private parties and events, building its own success one customer at a time.
The results were not late to arrive.
According to the Argentine daily *Clarín*, by the end of 2016 the group had already taken part in over ninety events, preparing more than 3,700 pizzas.
The initiative was also indicated by ASDRA, the Association of Down Syndrome of the Republic of Argentina, as an example of inclusion and occupational inclusion based on independence and valorisation of people's capacities.
Their history shows that the most difficult limit to overcome is almost never the limit of skills.
Much more often is that of the expectations that others impose on us.
And when someone stops waiting for permission to prove what they can do, something can be born that inspires an entire community.
